Dates are: Nights of Friday -July 24, and Saturday-July 25 with a return to the CNU dorm at the end of the day on Sunday, July 26. Pick up and drop off will be at CNU. There will be a BBQ dinner for all (faculty, students and host families) to attend on Sunday before the return to the dorms. Host families need not be Newport News residents. In fact, several hosts are from the surrounding counties of York, Poquoson and James City as well as the City of Hampton. Hosts are not expected to “entertain” the students; the goal of a “homestay” is to introduce people of different cultures to typical, American, daily life. (If there is such a thing!) Going to the grocery store, running errands, dropping kids off at events, attending a house of worship…you are welcome to follow your normal routines.
If you have not hosted before, this is a great opportunity as the visit is short and there is no schedule to keep other than pick-up and drop off. If you have a friend or neighbor who might consider hosting, please let them know about this opportunity. Completion of a one-page "Host Application" is required.
