"Culture in Motion"
A university student performance troupe featuring traditional ethnic Chinese arts
October 2-8, 2019: Sister Cities is thrilled to have welcomed a 12-member delegation from Chengdu Textile College (CDTC). CDTC is a higher education college and professional institute dedicated to supporting Sichuan folk culture and other ethnic groups and their cultures.
This exchange was all about learning and sharing and featured a truly unique series of performances in 4 area venues: CNU, W&M, Woodside High School and the Newport News Fall Festival of Friends. Each performance featured selections from the troupe's prepared program which included a runway show with traditional garments of the Han, Yi, and Zang ethnic groups, as well as "mask changing" and long-sleeve dance typical of Sichuan Opera. In addition musical instruments, songs, a runway show representing traditional Chinese clothes of the The delegation consisted of 4 adults and 8 students. Sister Cities of Newport News is forever grateful to the "Host Families" in our community who provided housing for the delegation during their visit and to W&M and Mary's Confucius Institute for grant funding used to conduct the exchange. We also thank the performance venues for their hospitality and welcoming Thank You Sister Cities Host Families!
