Enter locally to compete in this international art competition with 6 submission categories*
*Sister Cities Newport News (SCNN) is sponsoring our local Young Artist and Authors Showcase (YAAS) competition in conjunction with the Sister Cities International (SCI) competition. This annual contest encourages youth worldwide to express the mission of Sister Cities. Submissions will be judged based on originality, composition, & theme interpretation.
Local Awards
$100 for the top submission in 6 categories as judged by SCNN
in 2 age groups / 12-14 and 15 to 18
National Awards
Newport News' local winners, and up to 4 honorable mentions in each category,
will be entered into SCI's YAAS and become eligible for the following additional awards:
Each Category’s Grand Prize Winner will receive $1,000
Each category’s 2nd Place Winner will receive $250
Each category’s 3rd Place Winner will receive $100

GENERAL YAAS RULES
- Artist must be between the ages of 12-18 as of April 1, 2026
- Artist must be a resident of Newport News or if not a resident, a member of SCNN
- International submissions are welcome from our international partners cities (Neyagawa, Japan; Taizhou, China; Greifswald, Germany; ZiYang, China or Saint Nazaire, France).
- Artists may submit their work in multiple categories or showcases (1 submission per category ).
