About Ziyang The City of Newport News, VA officially became a “friendship city” with Ziyang, Sichuan in 2005. Ziyang is located in the eastern part of Sichuan Province in southwest China. The prefecture-level city spans 2,219 square miles and has a population of over 3.5 million. Nearest to its borders, Ziyang is surrounded by the provincial capital of Chengdu and three cities (Deyang, Suining, and Neijiang). |
History of Ziyang Dating back to its establishment during the Han dynasty in 135 B.C., Ziyang wears its history for all to see. Buddhist sculptures and stone carvings scale the cave walls in Anyue, where they stand proud and tall as some of the main landmark attractions. Along the outskirts of populated areas, Qianfo Village and Ancient temples continue to entrance visitors year-round. Recognized as the “lemon capital”, Anyue county, which resides in Ziyang, is one of the major lemon producers in the world. With a GDP of 127 billion RMB in 2016, the city continues to grow by focusing its development on the fruit and automotive industry. With an emphasis on its new economic goals, the city’s interest in dental products and education has increased over the coming years as the China Dental Valley has begun to gain recognition.
