History of Taizhou Taizhou is located in the center of Jiangsu Province in eastern China. Bordering the Yangtze River along its northern bank, the city covers 5,787 square meters and has a population of over 5 million. Within its domain, Taizhou contains two municipal districts (Hailing and Gaogang) and remains near its surrounding cities (Yancheng, Nantong, and Yangzhou). Engrained with a deep and enriching history, spanning over 2,000 years since the Qin Dynasty, Taizhou continues to thrive and develop. The city encompasses gardens and outdoor spaces, with national wetlands and maritime environments at the forefront of visitor attractions. Along these waters, a century-old tradition known as the Qintong Boat Festival paints the lakes in reds and yellows from its vibrant, annual festivities. As part of the Yangtze River Delta, the city’s economy relies heavily upon trade and the shipbuilding industry, with import and export values reaching $12.9 billion in 2017. Striving to expand efforts in the medical sector, Taizhou is home to the headquarters of one of China’s leading pharmaceutical groups. In the future, the city hopes to progress with scientific, technological, and agricultural advancements.
