Newport News establishes new "Friendship City"
with Carrigaline, County Cork, Ireland!
SCNN is exploring Newport News' Irish Roots! Read the great writeup in the link below by Irish historian Hiram Morgan for some quick back ground. In the fall of 2021, The Sister Cities of Newport News Board of Directors approved the first step on the road to a formal "Sister City" partnership by making Carrigaline a "Friendship City".
Carrigaline has an established "Twinning Committee" which, like Sister Cities manages their international partnerships. Over the next several months, we will work with them to build connections between government officials in both cities. Our goal will be to identify and details areas where an official "Sister City" partnership could be of mutual benefit to both cities. Cultural programs (music, art, etc) as well as youth programs are possible.
In-person exchanges and in virtual exchanges are desired. Now is the time to get invloved. This partnership will require dedicated leadership and a strong supporting committee. If you are ready to help - send us an email and become part of the Carrigaline Committee.
