Our youth exchange partnership with Jahn Gymnasium in Greifswald, Germany continues!
In 2017 under the guidance of local educators Christina Willett and Helen Small our first youth delegation travelled. They "homestayed" with local families and attended school. The also spent 3 days in Berlin prior to departing back to the U.S. The program repeated in 2019 with Frau Willett and Jessica Janney as chaperones, this time with a stay in Munich. Plans are to host the German students again in 2021 and travel back on a reciprocal exchange in June 2021. (Pictures from the 2017 youth exchange below)

8-Week Reciprocal Long Term Exchanges to Germany in Spring-Summer 2018
The families of Newport News students Emma Janney (Menchville) and Georgia Danehy (Warwick) opened their homes to a student from Jahn Gymnasium in Griefswald Germany this spring. The students, Rosa and Nele, attended regular classes with their "host sisters" for 8 weeks. In return, Emma and Georgia are now staying with their families in Greifswald for 8 weeks. "Long-Term" reciprocal exchange programs like this, where students are immersed in the culture and academics, have been a long term goal for Sister Cities of Newport News. Thanks to the kindness of these host families, and the drive of 2018 SCNN president Katie Stodghill, teachers Frau Willett, Herr Grap, and with the support of NNPS administration, the program is a reality! We are ready to do it again. Call us if you want to help. 757-926-1348.
NOTE: Travel Preference is given to students and families active in the Newport News Sister Cities Program.
Students Can Host & Travel with Sister Cities!
It is truly a foreign language teacher’s dream to witness a true representation of what cross cultural relationships between students can do to create global citizens.
