What can I expect?
You can expect a one-of-a-kind experience. Sister Cities of Newport News (SCNN) is not a travel agency or tour group. We are a non-profit, citizen diplomacy network. Each exchange is unique.
What does it cost?
Costs vary based on the location and duration of the visit. In general, Citizen Diplomats are expected to pay for their passport (and visa for China), airfare and spending money. The host city will provide housing (“homestays” will a local family) tours and most meals. Nearly all delegates report a "excellent" return for the financial investment made. You must be a current member of SCNN to apply. If selected, you will be required to abide by the rules and regulations set forth by Sister Cities of Newport News as conditions for exchanges, as well as attend all pre-travel educational sessions and meetings. As a Citizen Diplomat for Sister Cities Newport News, you agree to share your experiences with others upon return, either by hosting an incoming delegate or volunteering your time to the organization. Volunteer opportunities include committee work, fundraising, speaking to youth or civic groups, etc...
A $150 non-refundable administrative fee is required for all delegates chosen for travel. Payment is due upon selection.
