the Newsome Park — Neyagawa Educational Summit in April 2006.
$34,140 In-kind support was received
from the community. This includes housing, admissions, transportation,
food, and translation services.
150 Citizens volunteered their time
and talents to support international visitors from Japan, China and
Germany
57 Delegates traveled to Neyagawa, Japan
for the Newsome Park-Neyagawa Educational Summit.
47 Works of Japanese art were displayed
in the Ferguson Center Hall Gallery (the 1st exhibition held at this
new site!)
19 Japanese students (aged 18 to 25)
lived with local families during the August 2005 Neyagawa Youth Delegation
visit.
17 Citizens from Greifswald, Germany
— our new Friendship City — including Lord Mayor Arthur
König, visited Newport News.
5 SCNN members traveled to Spokane,
Washington for the Sister Cities International Conference.
5 Members of NIEFA’s Youth Committee
visited Newport News — four were return visitors!
3 Local venues hosted a Sister Cities
exhibit including…Newport News’ Fall Festival of Folklife,
Hampton International Children’s Festival and Newport News Children’s
Festival of Friends.
1 Student artist received $250 for their
award winning Competition (YAC)
1 Very special teahouse was moved to
the Peace Garden at Newport News Park thanks to the City of Newport
News.
